I'm happy to announce that I'm one of the first in the world to be certified by Magento as a Solution Specialist. I took the opportunity while in Las Vegas for the Magento Imagine Conference to take the new exam. I belatedly took and passed the developer certification at the same time. A good day all around!
The aim of the Solution Specialist certification is to recognise business-oriented team members for their understanding of Magento.
My understanding is that this certification grew out of Magento's internal training system. When they were going through massive growth, the people needed to be on-boarded to ensure they knew what they were talking about.
From an development agency point of view, the upshot of this certification is ensuring that project and account managers and business analysts have an understanding of the Magento feature-set and how it can be applied to a range of problems. Naturally, this means that it all covers the limitations of Magento and when customisations are required.
I will be encouraging Sophie, our project manager, to go through the study guide and prepare for it.
